Stephanie Barak is an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology at George Washington University. Prior to joining GW, she completed a surgical pathology fellowship with emphasis in gynecological pathology at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, a cytology fellowship at GW, and an Anatomic Pathologic Residency at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda MD, where she was Chief Resident.
Dr Barak clinical expertise provides diagnostic services in placenta and gynecological pathology, head and neck pathology and thoracic pathology. In cytology, aside from diagnostic services, she performs Rapid On Site Evaluation (ROSE) for clinician performing ultrasound (including endoscopic or endobronchial ultrasound guided) or CT-scan guided fine needle aspiration.
Dr Barak’s research interest centers around placenta pathology and its correlation to clinical conditions (hypertension, pre/eclampsia, diabetes, intraventricular hemorrhage…), using imaging modalities (qMRI to study healthy and high-risk placenta in vivo), or molecular studies (gene expression analysis in FFPE tissues).
