Biography

Dr. Raymond (Ray) Panas started in the pharmaceutical industry in 1995 as a Clinical Research Associate for ClinTrials Research. He has worked for several pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies including Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Wellstat Therapeutics, and TAP Pharmaceuticals. Over the years he has served as a Senior Clinical Research Associate, Clinical Trials Manager, Therapeutic Program Director, Director of International Clinical Development, and Director of Global Pharmacovigilance and Safety Surveillance. During the past several years, Dr. Panas has worked on numerous clinical trials, investigational new drugs, and marketing authorization applications in several countries including several drug compounds which have received regulatory approval.

Previously, Dr. Panas worked for the Allegheny County Public Health Laboratories, Montifiore Hospital, and the University of Pittsburgh in various clinical and research laboratories investigating various immunologic conditions. He was licensed as a Certified Clinical Research Associate (CCRA) by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals in 1997 and as a Technologist in Immunology (I ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology in 1995.

Dr. Panas has served as an officer or board member for several organizations. He is currently a member of the American Public Health Association, American Society for Clinical Pathology, Association of Clinical Research Professionals, Drug Information Association, International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and Who’s Who in Science and Healthcare. He has been on an advisory panel for invivodata, International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and Walden University. He has contributed to and presented several posters, oral presentations, and publications.

Teaching

Dr. Panas joined The George Washington University as an Assistant Professor in August 2009. He has taught several courses for the Clinical Research Administration program including Clinical Research Industry, Clinical Trials Management, and International Clinical Research. He has provided curriculum support and update for courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, Dr. Panas has served as an instructor for Walden University (Minneapolis, MN), University of Liverpool/Laureate Education (Liverpool, UK), and the Community College of Allegheny County (Pittsburgh, PA).

Research

Dr. Panas research interests are related to the implementation of globalized standards for international clinical development/operations, particularly the establishment and impact of regulatory policy on pharmaceutical research activities. His interests include the impact of Outcomes Research and Pharmacoeconomics on the global drug development and approval process.
