Biography

Nancy D. Gaba, MD ’93, RESD ’97, FACOG  is the Oscar I. and Mildred S. Dodek and Joan B. and Oscar I. Dodek, Jr. Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Originally from New York City, Dr. Gaba attended Vassar College and subsequently the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS). As a senior medical student she was elected to the GW Kane-King-Dodek Obstetrical Society, and served as the society’s president in 1993. She is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
 
Dr. Gaba chose to remain in Washington, D.C. for her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. She was selected as an administrative chief resident, and upon completion of her residency at SMHS, she was awarded the Allen B. Weingold Award for Excellence in Medical Education. She has gone on to win numerous other prestigious teaching awards including the APGO  Excellence in teaching Award, The CREOG Award for Excellence in Teaching, the ACOG Donald F. Richardson Faculty Award of Excellence and the ACGME Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award. She was elected by her peers to the national Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 2014. Dr. Gaba has previously served as the residency program director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Division Director for General Obstetrics and Gynecology and as Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She served as associate dean for graduate medical education and DIO from 2008-2014.
 
As a member of the full-time faculty in the Medical Faculty Associates since 1997, Dr. Gaba has many areas of clinical interest and expertise in general obstetrics and gynecology. These include management of menopause, hormone replacement therapy, sonohysterography, management and treatment of fibroids and menstrual disorders, adolescent gynecology, gynecologic surgery, cervical dysplasia, contraception and general obstetrics. She has been selected as a Washingtonian ‘Top Doctor’ every time the award has been given since 2002.
 
A published author, Dr. Gaba has written many peer reviewed papers, book chapters and numerous abstracts. She had presented scientific papers and educational courses at many national meetings. She serves on the teaching faculty for several nationally recognized professional courses including the APGO Surgical Education Scholars Program and the CREOG School for new Program Directors. From 2011-2014 Dr. Gaba served on the AAMC’s Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee. She also serves as an oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Gaba is a founding member and is currently serving as the second President of the Society for Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her presidential initiative is to foster mentorship and leadership development for academic specialists in comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology.
