Maura Polansky is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies. Through these roles, Polanksy fosters collaborative practice in teaching, research, and service. Polansky’s clinical background is in cancer care, having practiced as a PA for more than 20 years at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining GW SMHS in early 2018. She currently provides instruction related to oncology within the Physician Assistant Program and provides support for curriculum development for the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medicine Program.
Polansky’s research interests include health professions education and collaborative medical practice. She has published and presented nationally and internationally regarding the clinical practice in oncology, physician assistant education, interprofessional education, and collaborative learning. She serves as a peer reviewer for several health professions journals including, JAAPA, Journal of the American Academy of Pas; Journal of Physician Assistant Education, and Journal of Oncology Practice. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
Polansky has devoted her career to professional service through her leadership in numerous professional organizations. She has been honored with several professional awards and recognitions.
