Biography
Dr. Marijane Hynes, M.D. has been an Internist for 15 years. She was educated at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and did her residency at Georgetown University in Internal Medicine.
During her years as a primary care doctor, she became interested in trying to help her patients lose weight as a treatment for many of their medical problems. In 2009, Dr. Hynes started the Weight Loss Clinic, which focuses on behavior changes and diabetes prevention. Today, Dr. Hynes partners with Internist Dr. Zayn Copeland in the clinic. The clinic has partnered with groups in the community such as Whole Foods, whose healthy eating expert has consulted with patients and provided food tours. Mary Ellen Wolf, a Certified Diabetic Nurse Educator is part of the team, and teaches and consults on the group visits.
Dr. Hynes has also worked with students and Professors, most notably Dr. Carolyn Sparks in the School of Public Health and Health Services, to help tackle the problem of obesity. Her goal is to develop a center focused on obesity prevention and treatment.
Dr. Hynes speaks at conferences around the country about obesity and other topics, and has been interviewed by both NPR and local TV stations about obesity.
