Biography
Juliet Lee, MD is a general surgeon and performs laparoscopic procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, ventral or incisional hernia repair, small bowel resection, colectomies, and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. A board-certified surgeon and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, she is currently an assistant professor of surgery at The GWU School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Director of Undergraduate Surgical Education. She also serves as the Surgery Clerkship Director and was the former Associate Program Director for the Residency in General Surgery.
Dr. Lee earned her medical degree, with distinction in research, from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She completed her residency at GW in 2002. During her residency, Dr. Lee completed a research fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the Children’s National Medical Center and in Immunology at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Lee has won a host of teaching awards including the the Paul C. Adkins Award for excellence in teaching by the surgical housestaff in 2004 and 2006. She was also the recipient of the Golden Apple Teaching Award from the third and fourth year medical students in 2006 and 2008.
Dr. Lee’s research interests include surgical education, trauma surgery and bariatric surgery. Her manuscripts have been published in peer reviewed journals such as Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Clinical Immunology as well as pending papers to the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Lee’s professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons in which she is a member of the Young Surgeons Committee for the Washington Chapter of the ACS, and the Association for Surgical Education. She serves on the Graduate Medical Education Committee which provides institutional oversight to all the training programs. She was the former Associate Director of Trauma and the first Vice President for the Attending Physicians Association for the George Washington University Hospital.
