Biography
Hana Akselrod, MD, MPH, is currently Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. After earning her MD at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and her MPH at Yale School of Public Health, she completed her internal medicine residency at the Maine Medical Center and her infectious disease fellowship at GW.
Dr. Akselrod conducts research on HIV as an investigator with the DC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and serves as GW site PI for the DC Cohort Longitudinal HIV Study. She is passionate about medical education and serves as a Clinical Public Health faculty mentor. She is a frequent collaborator on cross-disciplinary research on climate, health, resilience, and equity. Dr. Akselrod co-directs the COVID-19 Intelligence Unit, providing up-to-date support for decision-making during the pandemic crisis, and is an investigator on several research projects on COVID-19, including its impact on people living with HIV. Her clinical areas of interest include aging with HIV, LGBTQ health, and travel medicine.
