Biography
Ms. Mahon has held clinical, teaching, and administrative positions in a variety of health settings. As a certified medical technologist, MT(ASCP), she has worked in the laboratory field since 1970. She has held staff and management positions in clinical laboratories in New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Texas.
Ms. Mahon began her teaching career in 1984. She was a tenured associate professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she also served as director of undergraduate programs in Clinical Laboratory Science. After moving to the Washington, D.C. area, she served as the director of the U.S. Army Clinical Laboratory Officers Clinical Laboratory Science Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Since leaving her position at Walter Reed in 2003, Ms. Mahon has held positions as a team leader and microbiology reviewer at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research/Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and as a senior education program specialist and director of the Learning Management Institute at the Center for Veterinary Medicine/FDA. She is currently the director of staff and organizational development at the HIV/AIDS Bureau in the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Ms. Mahon is the co-author of several textbooks and currently teaches an online Clinical Microbiology course for GW’s Clinical Laboratory Science program.
