Biography

Dr. Borja is currently the Program Director for the George Washington University Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program. He has previously served as the first Medical Director of the Crisis Services at the Sheppard Pratt Health System for the past decade and was instrumental in its development. At Sheppard Pratt, he also served as the associate program director position in the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt residency and director of residency and medical student education. Dr. Borja helped launch successfully a new psychiatry residency at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He was also instrumental in creating the Psychiatric Emergency Services at the University of Maryland and served as its Medical Director. He is a graduate of the charter class of the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt Psychiatry Residency Program where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Borja had served as a Senior Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology (ABPN) from 2002 to 2015. Dr. Borja’s academic career has been primarily focused upon psychiatry residency and medical student education. His major areas of clinical expertise and scholarship are telepsychiatry and emergency psychiatry/crisis intervention. He is certified in electroconvulsive therapy and EMDR treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder.
